about lyfe 09

LYFE (Linwood Youth Festival Experience) is a Linwood-focused event where youth pride, diversity and achievements are celebrated.

LYFE sets out to demonstrate what is positive in the Linwood community.

The first festival in 1998 was held because of a negative image and youth decided to do something to turn the tide.

Each year local youth, with support of the LYFE committee, spend many hours planning the festival.

Youth learn many valuable skills including publicity, sponsorship, event management, media relationships, teamwork and co-operation.

The five-hour festival always focuses on youth, families and friends with a suburban-fair atmosphere.

It also aims to develop pride and build strong positive relationships between the youth of Linwood and the community by featuring local youth achievements and providing opportunities for sharing information.

Each year support for the day comes from the Hagley-Ferrymead Community Board, the Christchurch City Council Community Recreation Advisor, local businesses and community organisations, schools, churches, cultural groups, students and volunteers.
